McLean is a moderate-sized unincorporated community in the county of Fairfax. Only 8 miles from Washington, D.C., many residents include top-ranking diplomats and congressmen. Being so close to our nation’s capital, it naturally has a long and interesting history. One of McLean’s most famous residents was Revolutionary War hero Henry Lee III, known as “Light-Horse Harry,” ninth governor of Virginia and the father of Robert E. Lee.
Due to being a suburb of Washington, D.C., and with many politicians as residents, luxury homes abound in McLean. Classic Tudor style is popular along with Colonial, Victorian, and Greek Revival styles. There are also luxury townhouses, condominiums, and even old log homes. Dwellings in McLean tend to be upscale and posh, matching the tastes of its many famous political residents. McLean has a suburban feel with its parks, small cafes, and restaurants.

Local Lifestyle
McLean provides a luxury lifestyle and a strong sense of community among the residents. The annual McLean Day (over 100 years running and still going) brings the locals together for games, carnival rides, gourmet food, a petting zoo, live music, and more. There is also a sense of togetherness and belonging at the McLean Community Center. It is where the locals gather for culinary classes, day trips, tours to historic sites, performing arts events, spring festivals, family trivia night, and more.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
When it comes to Mediterranean, Turkish, and Middle Eastern food, it’s hard to beat the Kazan Restaurant. When you go, try Sultan Tavuk. For a luxury steakhouse, the award-winning Palm Tysons Corner is the place to be. Their Prime Ribeye Steak is not to be missed. Vegetarian foodies might disagree, however, and send you straight to the Flower Child for their Mother Earth Bowl. No one would fault you, though, if you head straight for the ultimate Tiramisu dessert at Listrani’s Italian Gourmet, because you only live once.
As if having all of D.C.’s shopping at your fingertips weren’t enough, McLean is home to premier shopping at Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. All the big-name designers are there along with clothing, fragrance and beauty products, high-end accessories, eyewear, footwear, fine jewelry, sportswear, spas, and fine art galleries. Situated along the Galleria is The Ritz-Carlton hotel, a luxury resort for visitors and locals who want the best. It’s hard not to feel pampered with their haute cuisine, spa, game room, fitness center, and lounge.
Things to Do
Just a few minutes from Tysons Corner, residents relax at the 157-acre Westwood Country Club, complete with a golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, and clubhouse. The Clemyjontri Park is for all ages, and McLean locals enjoy its picnic pavilion, huge children’s playground, carousel, and nature trails. Over at Lewinsville Park, there are tennis and pickleball courts.
Once a week, on Friday mornings, from May to November, the Lewinsville Park hosts the McLean Farmers Market, where residents can pick up the freshest produce local farmers have to offer as well as berries and nuts, pastries, coffee beans, and more.
